Doors or Wheels?
Do you think there are more doors or wheels in the world? Well, this is the big question that is floating around social media. For almost two weeks, whether you were at lunch or having late-night talks with friends, the hot topic would be if you thought there were more doors or wheels in the world.
It all started with a guy that goes by the name of Ryan Nixon. Ryan is from New Zealand and in March he posted a poll on Twitter asking "do you think there are more doors or wheels in the world?" The definition of a door is "a hinged, sliding, or revolving barrier at the entrance to a building, room, or vehicle, or in the framework of a cupboard." A wheel is defined as a circular object that spins on an axel. It is an object that makes an object move easier on the ground. In a way, this could also relate to the knobs in your car or on a radio that change the station or move the volume up and down because the knob spins on an axel. As of right now, wheels is winning with 53.6% of the votes and doors having 46.4%.
If you look up the number of hashtags on Instagram, you will see that there are a total of 3,141 hashtags for #teamwheels and a total of 454 hashtags for #teamdoors.

And I am here for it.
Do you think there are more doors or wheels in the world?
There have been millions of videos posted on Tik Tok about this debate. You will see people trying to end the debate with evidence they have found, posting videos with pictures of doors or wheels you wouldn't even think about, or just posting vlog-like videos just talking about the debate.

In this particular Tik Tok, Danilo tries to prove his theory by using hot wheels as an example in saying that each toy car that is sold has four wheels while none of the doors on the car open.

You will also see people who are trying to end the debate by using math to try to calculate just how many doors and wheels there actually are in the world.

James Charles, who is a beauty influencer on Youtube and Tik Tok shared his opinion on the topic but also did a test throughout his own home. He went around counting every door and wheel in his house just to see a small portion of the percentages just in homes. After he went through and counted, he found a tie between wheels and doors in his home.
@ups We counted the doors and wheels on all 127k+ of our vehicles to settle this #wheels #doors #doorsorwheels #wheelsvsdoors ♬ original sound - UPS
The UPS shipping company even decided to take on the debate by talking about shipping strategies and the equipment they use to get out packages to our doorsteps. UPS takes the team wheel's side.
In the past, we have also had topics similar to these blow up on social media. Several years ago a picture started floating around about a dress that seemed to be a different color to different individuals. The debate was over if the dress was blue and black or white and gold. It may be because of the filters on different pictures but of course, everyone had their own opinions.
Another example of a debate similar to this topic was whether a voice recording was saying "laurel" or "yanny". In 2018 this recording came out and individuals were convinced they were hearing different words.
Reverting back to the doors versus wheels debate, FPU decided to take the debate to their campus asking students, professors, and other employees their personal opinions on the topic. Cullin Bates, a sophomore at Fresno University says "There are more wheels because wheels come in bigger quantities than doors. such as the number of roller chairs and they have at least 4 wheels per chair. Also on roller coasters, the wheels are used to operate the ride." A professor by the name of Rick De La Pena informs us that wheels are a lot more useful by saying, "I’m gonna say there’s more wheels than doors as the wheel is a basic component to basic transportation. So I think there’s a lot more objects out there with wheels on them than doors. That’s my rationale as I believe there are more wheels as well. With wheels we aren’t really defining what counts as a wheel. There’s all kinds of wheels like in cars but there’s also wheels in different kinds of machines and stuff like that. It all depends on how you define a “wheel.” That’s what ultimately comes down too. But I will go with team wheels for sure."
The debate between doors and wheels still stands but it does seem like the majority votes for more wheels rather than doors. Just like many trending topics, everyone is going to have their own opinion and will stay loyal to it. This particular topic is just an example of how just one question posted on Twitter can consume all of the social media throughout the world in just a matter of days.
